MARKET VALUE ANALYSIS RELEASE 2.11 PAGE 1 OF 5
This function is used to analyze unrealized gains and losses ("paper" gains and
losses on securities that you still own). Multiple purchases in the same secur-
ity are shown separately. Purchase lots which had been sold on or before the
report date are not included; purchase lots which had been acquired after the
report date are not included either.
NOTE: The market values and their corresponding report date are entered in the
Add/Delete Securities screen (function A from the Master Menu). There is no
provision to enter market values in the Market Value Analysis function.
Each entry is shown on two lines. The first line of the column headings (actu-
ally, the second line down from the top of the screen) corresponds to the top
line of each entry; the second line of column headings corresponds to the bot-
tom line of each entry. The topmost line on the screen is a report heading.
In the first line of column headings, # UNITS is the face value of bonds in
hundreds, or the number of shares of a stock or mutual fund. MKT.VALUE is the
market value of that purchase lot; usually this is # UNITS x PRICE. If the
entry is a cash-equivalent account or if PRICE is not specified, MKT.VALUE will
be set equal to COST BASIS - what you paid for that security.

In the second line of column headings, MATURITY is the maturity date of a time
deposit, a bond or an option. DATE ACQ. is the date acquired or date of pur-
chase. MONTHS HELD is the decimal number of months that security has been held
as of the report date, and it takes into account the number of days in each in-
dividual month. ANNUAL % is the interest rate, compounded annually, at which
COST BASIS would grow steadily to MKT.VALUE during the period from DATE ACQ. to
the report date.
You should have noticed the solid video block near the left side of the screen.
It can be moved up and down, and the display can be "scrolled" up and down, by
using the up-arrow, down-arrow, PgUp, PgDn, Home and End keys. In this way you
can "browse" throughout the portfolio and see the status of each individual
purchase lot. The video block has no other purpose here; no data can be changed
in this program module.
Entries are displayed in order by security type, ticker symbol (or other iden-
tifier), and date of purchase or date of account balance.

Aside from "browsing" through your holdings, the available menu choices are
explained below:
T = display the Total market value, cost basis, gain/loss and other information
for each security type, and the grand totals. This includes the percentage
distribution of totals by security type. Pressing Enter repeatedly will
cycle the above information through all of the individual portfolios and
then back to the grand totals.
I = display totals by Industry category. The format is similar to the above,
except you can't cycle through individual portfolios.
N = display totals by portfolio Name. The format is similar to the T function
above, except portfolio name and security type are interchanged. Pressing
Enter repeatedly will cycle the information through all of the security
types and then back to the grand totals.

F = Find the specified symbol. You will be prompted to type in an existing
stock symbol or other security identifier. The program will re-display the
screen in such a manner that the last purchase lot in the specified secur-
ity will be shown nearest the bottom of the screen. You can see up to five
purchase lots at one time.
H = Help screen display. Displays the information you are reading now.
X = eXit to the Master Menu screen.
Q = Quit and return to DOS.
P = Print all individual data entries (purchase lots) in a format which is
identical to the screen format. In addition, the printout will include
totals broken down by security type (as for the "T" function), and totals
broken down by industry category (as for the "I" function). (The printout
does not include any breakdown of totals by individual portfolio).

After invoking a print function, you will be asked if you want to pause between
pages. Reply Y (for Yes) if you are using single sheets or if you want an
opportunity to adjust the printer after each page is printed; otherwise reply N
(for No). Pagination is automatic and assumes 8 1/2 by 11-inch paper. No
special printer features are used or required.
Printing begins on the line where the print head is at, so first make sure the
paper is loaded the way you want. If you have just used your printer for some-
thing else, it may need to be re-set manually before starting.
You can press the Esc key at any time to stop the process. The printing should
stop after a few lines, depending on the size of your print buffer. But if your
printer has a large buffer or you are using a print spooling program, pressing
the Esc key may not stop the printer.
If there is a printer problem such as out of paper or not ready, the program
should trap the error. In some cases the computer may just "hang up" and appear
to do nothing. Try pressing Ctrl-Break if that happens.
